3 Installation

This chapter explains how to install the Java Servlet 4.0 API TCK software.

After installing the software according to the instructions in this chapter, proceed to Chapter 4, "Setup and Configuration," for instructions on configuring your test environment.

3.1 Obtaining the Reference Implementation

You can obtain the Java Servlet Reference Implementation (RI) (Eclipse GlassFish 5.0) software from Java Licensee Engineering (https://javapartner.oracle.com).

3.2 Installing the Software

Before you can run the Java Servlet TCK tests, you must install and set up the following software components:

  • Java EE 8 RI or, at a minimum, a Web server with a Servlet container

  • Java SE Z

  • Java Servlet 4.0 RI, which is Eclipse GlassFish 5.0

  • Java Servlet TCK version 4.0, which includes:

    • JDOM 1.0

    • Apache Commons HTTP Client 3.1

    • Apache Commons Logging 1.1.1

    • Apache Commons Codec 1.3

    • Apache Ant 1.8.4

  • The Java Servlet 4.0 Vendor Implementation (VI)

Follow these steps:

  1. Install the Java SE Z software, if it is not already installed.
Download and install the Java SE Z software from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html. Refer to the installation instructions that accompany the software for additional information.

  2. Install the Java Servlet TCK 4.0 software.

    1. Copy or download the Java Servlet TCK software to your local system.
You can obtain the Java Servlet TCK software from the Java Licensee Engineering (https://javapartner.oracle.com) Web site. The Java Servlet TCK software is located in the Web site’s Download Center area.

    2. Use the unzip command to extract the bundle in the directory of your choice:
      unzip servlettck-4.0_dd-mm-yyyy.zip
This creates the TCK directory. The TCK is the test suite home, <TS_HOME>. NOTE TO WRITERS: Steps to install the Java EE Reference Implementation. For standalone technologies, no server may be required, and the below lines can be removed. This is used in install.adoc in section 3.2.

  3. Install the Java EE 8 RI software (the servlet Web container used for running the Java Servlet TCK with the Java Servlet 4.0 RI), if it is not already installed.
Download and install the Servlet Web container with the Java Servlet 4.0 RI used for running the Java Servlet TCK 4.0, represented by the Java EE 8 RI. This software can be obtained from the Java Licensee Engineering Web site. Refer to any installation instructions that accompany the software for additional information.

  4. Install the Java Servlet 4.0 Reference Implementation.
The Reference Implementation is used to validate your initial configuration and setup of the Java Servlet TCK 4.0 tests, which are explained further in Chapter 4, "Setup and Configuration."
The Java Servlet RI can be obtained from Java Licensee Engineering (https://javapartner.oracle.com). NOTE TO WRITERS: Steps to install a web server required for the Vendor Implementation. For standalone technologies, no web server may be required, and the below lines can be removed. This is used in install.adoc in section 3.2.

  5. Install a Web server on which the Java Servlet TCK test applications can be published for testing the VI.

  6. Install the Java Servlet Vendor Implementation (VI) to be tested.
Follow the installation instructions for the particular VI under test.
